EHi signs sourcing deal with SAIC on EVs

Shanghai-based eHi Auto Services Co signed a sourcing deal with Shanghai SAIC Motor Corp for 1,000 electric vehicles to promote energy efficient cars.

SAIC Motor Corp will deliver Roewe E50 electric cars and Roewe 550 hybrid energy vehicles over the next few years and the first batch will be put into operation in a month or two.

The total contract is worth about 100 million yuan (US$15.9 million) and the electric cars will be available for rent in Shanghai as well as eHi's outlets in other first tier cities.

Last year, eHi Auto Services put 50 Roewe pure electric cars into the rental market in Shanghai and more than 90 percent of them are booked on a working day.

The car rental company is offering free charging services and the electric car is also cheaper than the gasoline models of the same size.
