Yum China acquires online food delivery firm Daojia.com

YUM China Holdings, the operator of fast-food chain KFC, East Dawning and casual dining Pizza Hut, said it has agreed to acquire a controlling stake in online food delivery service Daojia.com.

The deal, with its value undisclosed, is expected to close by the end of May, according to a statement on Yum China's official website yesterday.

Daojia.com was founded in 2010 and also operates an English online delivery service called Sherpa's. The acquisition is said to mark another step for Yum China’s to push forward digital and delivery by building know-how and expertise in this growing segment.

Fast food companies, canteens and Internet companies are busy developing delivery services as it allows them to serve customers beyond the reach of their physical stores.

In the first quarter, delivery accounted for about 12 percent of Yum China's sales. A total of 4,400 restaurants among its 7,663 nationwide outlets are offering delivery services as of the end of first quarter of 2017.
