VF Corporate opens Kunshan distribution center

US-based VF Corporate, parent of North Face and Lee, today opened its distribution center in Shanghai’s neighboring Kunshan City as the company seeks to double its China sales by 2017.

It is the company’s largest infrastructure investment in China at a cost of US$62 million, VF said.

The facility is now able to handle 10 million units of clothing and footwear each year. This is expected to triple when the center reaches full capacity.

Eric Wiseman, global chairman and CEO of VF Corporation, said the company’s revenue reached US$500 million in China last year and the company expects this to double by 2017.

“It’s our wish that we will continue to grow in China, necessitating us to build another distribution facility nearby where we already have the land to do that,” said Wiseman.

The center will exclusively serve VF’s stores in China, Wiseman said.

VF now sells 8 brands in China including North Face, Lee, Vans and Timberland.

Factories in China now produce 100 million units of clothing and footwear for VF each year, 20 percent of the company’s products globally.
