Work on longest cross-sea bridge completed

A bird’s-eye view shows a section of the world’s longest cross-sea bridge that connects Zhuhai in Guangdong Province with Hong Kong and Macau. The major construction work on the 55-kilometer bridge was completed yesterday, marking the start of final-stage work including road surfacing. Construction began in December 2009 in Zhuhai. The Y-shaped bridge starts from Lantau Island in Hong Kong with branches to Zhuhai and Macau. The bridge will cut travel time from Hong Kong to both Zhuhai and Macau from the current three hours by road or one hour by sea to a half hour drive. ...

Danish conglomerate AP Moller-Maersk is splitting its massive container shipping operations and its energy business into separate companies, in a major shakeup that follows years of declining oil prices and freight rates. The Copenhagen-based group said yesterday that the transport and logistics division will include its shipping, terminal and container businesses, while the energy division will handle oil drilling and production as well as the tanker business. AP Moller-Maersk raised the possibility of separating its oil units from the group through joint ventures, mergers or listings. It said the main focus of the group going forward would be “delivering best in class transportation and logistics services.” ...
