Rechargeable hearing aids debut to make people move easier

People with hearing problems can soon find rechargeable hearing aids on the market, which feature quicker charging and longer lasting time to make it easier for people, those always on the move in particular.

The rechargeable hear aids are offered by Phonak, a member of the Switzerland-headquartered Sonova Group. Being the first ever hearing aid featuring a built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery, the product can provide 24 hours of hearing with a three-hour charge. Given 30 minutes’ fast charging, it can run for six hours of immediate use.

It will be available on the US market in August, with Europe to follow in September. The product is still waiting for licensing in the Chinese mainland.

“The battery compartment of the new product is sealed, which frees customers from the cumbersome task of regularly charging their batteries,” said Phonak’s Group Vice President Martin Grieder. “The new technology is also environmentally friendly with users typically going through around 100 batteries per year and per hearing aid.”

Lithium-ion is the fastest growing and most promising battery technology that offers 40 percent more power than conventional rechargeable batteries.

The new hearing aids also come with smart charging options. The power pack, which is easily attached to the Phonak Charger Case, provides power for seven full charges of two hearing aids, ideal for short trips where no power source is available. In addition, Phonak offers a compact mini charger giving users full flexibility.
