LIFESTYLE and local services platform Meituan-Dianping has entered into a strategic agreement with UK-headquartered Merlin Entertainments in terms of online ticketing and promoting of domestic and overseas tourist attractions as it hopes to benefit from Chinese consumers' increasing interest in traveling to both local and foreign tourist attractions.
Meituan-Dianping boasts 60 million users in China and more than 67 million tickets of domestic and overseas visitor attractions were sold through its platform in the past year.
"The two parties are a good match in terms of providing lifestyle services and hopes to leverage both parties' consumer insights and marketing capabilities to provide better consumer experience," said Asia Divisional Director at Merlin Entertainments Putnam Shin.
Chinese travelers’ preferences have been diversifying thanks to the picking up of dispensable income. The two parties will build special sections for popular tourist attractions such as the Madame Tassauds in Shanghai on Meituan-Dianping's mobile application to increase interaction and enhance influence among a younger generation of consumers.
Merlin Entertainments is also set to launch a Legoland amusement park with its partner China Media Capital in Shanghai in the future.
