Maserati recalls 19,970 defective vehicles in China

ITALIAN luxury car maker Maserati will recall 19,970 vehicles in China's mainland over a defect in rear wheels, China's top quality watchdog said Wednesday.

The affected vehicles include imported Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli models manufactured between March 22, 2013 and Oct. 29, 2015, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The recall is set to begin June 13.

A defective design of the rear wheels may result in positioning failure and loss of vehicle control, increasing safety risks, the watchdog said.

Maserati promised to check and repair the vehicles at no charge.
