Fiercer competition for smartphone producers

Mid and high-end smartphones are entering a new round of competition with market share for smartphones priced over 2,000 yuan increased 4.38 percent in the first half, a latest study shows.

By the end of the second quarter in 2016, smartphones costing 2,000 yuan or more has a combined 47.6 percent market share with an increase of nearly 4.38 percent from the end of 2015, according to a joint release by Nielsen and TalkingData today.

Apple experienced some ups and downs, but the market share remains stable at 30.3 percent while the popularity of Android phones increases.

Among Android products, Samsung and Xiaomi’s market share slightly decreased while Huawei came in the first place with 11.6 percent, followed by Xiaomi's 10.9 percent and Samsung's 9.1 percent.

At the same time, the market share of phones priced below 1000 yuan continues lowered 3.21 percent in the first six months.

Meizu and Huawei performed well within the category that's priced below 1,000 yuan, as two of Meizu and three of Huawei's models were among the top 10 fastest growing models.
