Chinajoy opens in Shanghai on Thursday

Chinajoy, the country's biggest game fair, will open on Thursday in Shanghai with new spotlights including cross-industry integration, game export and VR or virtual reality popularity.

Chinajoy, or China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference, is expected to attract 360,000 visitors in the four-day event held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. More than 600 firms including Sony, LeEco, China Mobile, Bilibili and China Reading will attend it, which makes the game event upgrade to an event covering film, game, Internet literature, animation and audio.

As the host city, Shanghai's game industry revenue reached 49.9 billion yuan (US$7.56 billion) in 2015, 32.4 percent growth year-on-year. It accounted for 35 percent of the national game revenue, which brings the city a leading game industry nationwide, according to local government bureaus.

In 2015, Shanghai's game export hit US$700 million, 31 percent growth from a year ago.

The organizer has imposed strict rules to prevent showgirls exposing too many skins, which will shift the focus this year from scantily-clad women to the games and industry trends.

For example, VR is expected to become spotlights as top firms Sony and HTC will release latest products and services. A VR summit will also be held during the event. Sony is going to announced detailed strategies for Playstation VR in China on Wednesday.
