BASF to invest 90m euro in Shanghai innovation center

German chemical company BASF said today it will invest 90 million euro (US$96.03 million) in 2015 for the second phase of its Asia-Pacific regional innovation center in Shanghai.

The company today kicked off the 130th anniversary of its entry into China by a series of events in Shanghai that focus on sustainable urban living.

In the week-long session, BASF will invite corporations, authorities, and NGOs to join in seminars and discussions on tackling challenges brought by modern metropolitan life.

This year also marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of BASF. Shanghai is the second stop in the company’s world anniversary tour, with New York playing host in the following stop, which will begin on May 26.

BASF is currently the largest foreign chemical investor in China, achieving sales of more than 5.5 billion euro in China for 2014.
