Alibaba’s Cainiao expands business coverage
Alibaba’s logistics affiliate Cainiao Network said today it hopes to further expand its network of service to cover more than 1,700 domestic colleges by the end of this year to better serve the booming packages from online shopping orders.
It will also team up with 100 domestic colleges this year to set up flagship Cainiao stations to deal with peak period for package deliveries.
Courier delivery staff could drop the packages from online shopping sites such as Alibaba’s retail platform Taobao and Tmall as well as third party e-commerce sites at Cainiao Network’s service points and students could pick them up later, using their personal identification card and a verification code sent to their mobile phones, saving trouble for both parties.
Currently there’re already service points in 1,200 colleges nationwide and they have served more than 15 million students.
About 1 million of packages are delivered to the existing Cainiao’s service points on an average day and that figure is expected to double by the end of this year.
It has also provided part-time and intern job openings for as many as 100,000 students in the last two years.
“We also hope these projects would provide social training and part-time opportunities for college students as China is encouraging start-up among college graduates to foster innovation and entrepreneurship,” said Cainiao official Mei Fengfeng.
