AIA’s new China chief

HONG Kong-based insurer AIA Group announced the appointment of Fisher Zhang as new China CEO in a series of handover process as the group's CEO and president Mark Tucker is set to leave for HSBC later this year.

Zhang, who was Chief Distribution Officer of AIA China, will take over from current CEO John Cai, who has been promoted to regional chief executive of AIA Group with responsibility for AIA’s businesses in China's mainland, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Myanmar.

Zhang will report directly to Cai, who will in turn report to AIA Group Chief Executive and President Designate, Ng Keng Hooi, according to an AIA statement.

AIA Group yesterday reported a record high 55 percent year-on-year growth of value of new business in the first quarter to US$884 million.

China's mainland was the group's fastest-growing and also the second largest market for the group on strong demand and high productivity level of agents, the group said.
