AD companies boom in FTZ

The number of advertising companies in Shanghai pilot free trade zone posted a 14-fold increase last year, boosted by the opening-up reform in the zone, according to a report.

Revenue generated by Internet advertising rose 52 percent from a year earlier, Shanghai Administration for Industry & Commerce said in a recent report.

By the end of 2014, there were 119,622 companies engaged in advertising businesses in Shanghai. Of them, 35,270 are advertising enterprises, a year-on-year increase of 23.5 percent, said the report.

Total revenue was 164.99 billion yuan (US$26.6 billion) citywide, rising 9.5 percent from a year earlier. The contribution of Internet advertising increased to 42.3 percent in 2014 from 31.5 percent in 2013, said the report.
