First-aid center upgrades hotline

CITY residents can expect service within 30 seconds when the Shanghai First-Aid Center opens the upgraded 120 hotline in the middle of this month, a newspaper reported today.
The waiting time is expected to be cut from one minute to 30 seconds, according to a Shanghai Morning Post report.
The first-aid center invested about 5 million yuan (US$731,900) to set up the hotline.
The number of operators is to increase to 24 from 12, and a large screen will be set up to cope with sudden public health or major healthcare issues.
Thirteen new emergency substations and 50 new ambulances will be put into service in 2009.
