POISONOUS bees killed three family members and injured one other in Chongqing Municipality yesterday afternoon.

The government in Xuexi Town, Wanzhou District, has dispatched special staff to watch the beehive and will ask professionals to destroy it soon, according to a newspaper.

Li Ming, the only person to survive the attack, is being treated for bee stings on his arms and head at a hospital in Wanzhou and remains in stable condition, Chongqing Morning Post reported today.

The incident occurred when he took his mother Zhao Laying, 43, three-year-old sister Li Bingxin and five-year-old nephew Han Jun for a ride on his motorcycle on Friday morning, the report said.

``I could hear the bees buzzing while driving towards Xianying Village in Yuexi Town,’’ Li told the newspaper. ``Suddenly, a huge swarm of bees, each about three centimeters long, engulfed all of us and I heard screams coming from behind.’’

Li stopped immediately and asked the others to run with him to farm houses, the newspaper said.

Li Guiying, no relation, was the first to respond to their cries for help and offered a quilt to Li Ming, who quickly wrapped his nephew in the quilt. His mother and sister were also wrapped in quilts to save them from the swarm of bees.

Li Guiying told the newspaper that she and some brick factory workers waved down a car and sent all four to a hospital.

However, Li Ming’s mother and nephew were poisoned to death soon after they were stung. His little sister died yesterday afternoon in spite of emergency treatment, the report said.
