Suspect held in murder of doctor, wife

SHANGHAI police have arrested a man for murdering a doctor and his wife in Minhang District early this month, authorities reported yesterday.
The man, surnamed Zhang, was apprehended on Friday while playing mahjong at a public game room in Susong County, Anhui Province.
Zhang admitted during preliminary questioning that he killed the couple for money, police said.
Zhang left Shanghai with his family after the killings, but a forensic analysis of the couple's home helped police identify him as a suspect.
The couple, surnamed Du and Huang, were killed about 8pm on November 2 in Pujiang Town.
Dr Du, 50, who came from Shandong Province, and Huang, a local woman about 40 who sold cosmetics, lived in a two-story villa. Across the courtyard was a private clinic where Du treated patients.
The police said they received a phone report about 8:25pm alerting them to the crime.
The caller, surnamed Li, who also moved here from Shandong, said that he saw a man leaving the yard just before he spotted the bodies of Du and his wife.
