The girl was stuck in a 30-centimeter gap between the two buildings about five floors above the ground when firefighters arrived and rescued her, Henan Economic News reported yesterday. She fell from the ninth floor. She had been trapped about 30 minutes when firefighters arrived after being called by police. Witnesses said she was shouting: "Hurry, I can't hold on much longer." Fireman Lou Lei climbed through a window on the fifth floor, which was two meters from the girl, the report said. He slowly approached the frightened girl. After Lou put ropes around her waist and both arms, his colleagues on the top floor started to pull. When she reached the fifth floor window, other firemen caught her and pulled her inside to safety, the report said. Doctors in Henan People's Hospital told the newspaper that the girl's injuries were not life-threatening but further observation was necessary. The girl's mother said they lived on the sixth floor of the building and her daughter had asked if she could play on the ninth floor. "I was busy then and did not stop her. Soon I heard others shouting that my daughter was trapped in the gap," she told the newspaper. Copyright © 2001-2009 Shanghai Daily Publishing House |
