Mall sex attacker held

A young man who allegedly molested a woman and tried to have sex with her in a shopping mall was formally arrested yesterday.
Minhang District prosecutors have charged Ji Yunchao, 20, with indecent assault.
Ji, who worked in a car maintenance workshop, was at a large shopping mall on Qixin Road on September 12 when he passed a rest room and noticed an attractive young woman in front of a mirror combing her hair.
After looking around to make sure no one else was nearby Ji went into the rest room and grabbed the girl, kissing her and fondling her breasts.
The girl, surnamed Lan, screamed but Ji put his hand over her mouth. He tried to pull her in to a stairwell but Lan held onto a door jamb desperately as the man continued to grope her.
Lan stamped on Ji's foot with her high-heel shoes then ran away, kicking the shoes off and shouting for help, leaving the molester yelling in pain.
A mall worker surnamed Bao heard the girl's screams and rushed into the rest room, catching Ji there and holding him until the police arrived.
Doctors who examined Lan found scratches on her breasts and neck. Ji told prosecutors that he had never seen such a beautiful woman and that he didn't care that it was in a public place.
Indecent assault carries a maximum five-year sentence, according to criminal law.
