Torrential rain swept the Leizhou Peninsular in the south of Guangdong. Rainfall in Leizhou's Wushi Town was recorded at 663.9 millimeters, while six weather stations around Guangdong observed more than 300 millimeters of rain. Kammuri's strength is expected to remain at current levels as it moves westward, said Huang Zhong, the chief forecaster of Guangdong's weather bureau. The storm will still dump heavy rain on the peninsula, Huang said. Kammuri lashed Xitou last night, battering buildings with force-10 winds at 90 kilometers an hour. There were no reports yet of human casualties, the Yangjiang City flood control headquarters said. The storm was the third to hit China this season. Tropical storm Kalmaegi hit in early July and typhoon Fung Wong smacked Fujian Province last week. Copyright © 2001-2009 Shanghai Daily Publishing House |
