Hope fades for 6 buried miners

RESCUERS said that six miners buried in a building collapse had little chance to survive in Guayang County of Baotou, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xinhuanet.com reported yesterday.

Safety Supervision Administration of Baotou City confirmed the six workers were still missing at 4pm yesterday. One man was killed when five houses, with seven people in them, collapsed into an excavated, mined out area at 9:30pm of Tuesday, the report said.

The administration said the five houses collapsed into a pit 35 meters deep. Rescuers told the news agency that efforts to save the miners were proving troublesome because of the terrain.

The houses belong to Julong Mining Company, the report said.
