DUSHANBE, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Tajik President Emomali Rahmon Wednesday inaugurated a new terminal of the Dushanbe International Airport (DIA).
Occupying an overall space of 11,000 square meters, the new terminal will be able to serve 1.5 million passengers a year, which would ease the growing air traffic flow at the airport.
The construction of the new terminal, scheduled to be completed by December 2014, was accomplished ahead of schedule.
Tajik government thus decided to open it early this month to mark the Tajikistan's Independence Day on Sept. 9 and the 2014 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, scheduled for Sept. 11-12 in Dushanbe, the Capital of Tajikistan.
The project was completed with the support of France, which provided Tajikistan with a long-term and low-interest loan of 19 million euros (24.96 million U.S. dollars), while the DIA paid 20 million euros (26.27 million dollars).
Vinci, a French concessions and construction company, signed the 19-million-euro contract for the new terminal with the DIA on April 27, 2012.
According to the DIA, the representatives of the French Embassy and Vinci Company, which engaged in the construction, also attended the opening ceremony.
