TOKYO, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Dominican Republic defeated Thailand 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-23) Tuesday in the opening game of the FIVB women's Grand Champions Cup held in Nagoya of Japan.
Bethania De La Cruz spearheaded Dominican Republic with a match-high 25 points, while the best scorer for Thailand was Sittirak Onuma who got 20 points.
The Dominicans held a 12-3 advantage in blocking points and also recorded a better 6-2 in serving aces.
After a sluggish start in the first set, the Dominicans came alive with an 11-3 run and maintained the momentum for the remainder, as De La Cruz scored 13 points alone in the second set.
The Dominicans displayed good teamwork in the victory, with slick passing and very good defense.
Thailand will play Brazil Wednesday and Dominican Republic will contest Russia next.
