On this day in 1951, China opened its first memorial museum in honor of an individual. The Shanghai Lu Xun Museum is dedicated to Lu Xun (1881-1936), a forerunner in modern Chinese literature. Located on Tian’ai Road in Hongkou District, the museum consists of his former residence and his tomb. Lu Xun was a great writer, editor, translator, critic, essayist and poet. “A Madman's Diary,” which he wrote in 1918, is regarded the first novel in modern Chinese language.
