All-Chinese pairings in women's semis

DEFENDING champion and top seed Ding Ning moved into the semifinals of the world championships in Paris yesterday after dispatching North Korea's Ri Myong Sun.
Ri, ranked 44th in the world, had dropped just one game through the first four rounds, a run that included a stunning whitewash of Japanese seventh seed Kasumi Ishikawa, but she was unable to slow down Ding as the Chinese star prevailed 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-6.
World No. 1 Ding next faces compatriot and third seed Li Xiaoxia for a place in the final in a repeat of the Olympic title match after Li dismissed another Chinese Wu Yang 14-12, 11-4, 6-11, 11-4, 11-7.
Li defeated a tearful Ding 4-1 in London last August to take the Olympic crown, but Ding holds an 8-5 advantage in head-to-head clashes.
Second-ranked Liu Shiwen shook off a slow start against Turkey's Melek Hu to reach the last four following a 7-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-9, 11-5 victory, while Zhu Yuling dismantled Olympic bronze medalist Feng Tianwei of Singapore 11-7, 11-5, 11-6, 11-7 to leave China assured of gold in the women's singles.
Earlier, South Korean mixed doubles pairing of Lee Sang-su and Park Young-sook dashed China's hopes of completing a fifth consecutive clean sweep as they ousted Wang Liqin and Rao Jingwen in the semifinals.
