See world of skyscrapers in exhibit at city's Jinmao Tower

CHINA'S first skyscraper visual-culture exhibition opened at the Jinmao Tower yesterday, featuring 3D aerial panoramas of the skyline of six cities, skyscaper diagrams and a display of images of famous architecture around the world.

Visitors can get a 360-degree view of skyscrapers at six big cities: Shanghai, New York, Hong Kong, Dubai, Paris and Moscow, with high resolution 3D aerial panoramas projected on a five-meter-wide screen. With advanced induction technology, viewers can control the change of images with gestures and movement.

The images were provided by AirPano, a group of Russian photographers and panorama enthusiasts.

More than 50 skyscraper diagrams, which are high-quality simulated computer graphics, are displayed at the exhibition. The art of skyscraper diagram illustrations were created in Canada. The works were contributed by skyscraper enthusiasts in China.

At the AR skyscraper avenue of stars, visitors can see images of some world renowned buildings like the Empire State Building by scanning a two-dimension code with their smartphones or computers at the scene.

Shanghai has more than 100 commercial buildings above 152 meters, surpassing Hong Kong, according to motiancity.com, a website focusing on research about the relationships of skyscrapers, cities and economics.

Visitors can learn about the stories behind some famous structures like the Eiffel Tower and Willis Tower at the exhibition.

It is the first time that a culture exhibition based on skyscrapers is held in China.

The exhibition will run until December 31 on the 88th floor, the observatory of Jinmao Tower.

It aims to help visitors discover the culture of skyscrapers in addition to appreciating the beautiful view of Shanghai, said Xia Weili, an operator of the Jinmao Tower.
