Lines 12, 16 to start operations tomorrow

Metro lines 12 and 16 will start operations from tomorrow, taking Shanghai’s subway network to 567 kilometers, the longest in the world.

Line 12, linking Tiantong Road Station in Hongkou District to Jinhai Road in the Pudong New Area, will operate from 6am to 10:55pm with an interval of 10 minutes, but extra trains will be pressed into service for the shorter Tiantong-Jufeng road stations that will cut the waiting time to 5 minutes during the morning and evening rush hours.

The train interval will be 8 minutes from 8am to 7pm on weekends.

Line 16 that connects Luo-shan Road Station to Dishui Lake in Nanhui area will run from 6am to 10:58pm.

The route will have two operational modes — stopping at every station and just at big stations. In the faster mode, the train will only make halts at Xinchang and Huinan stations apart from the terminal stations.

Both modes will have interval times of 20 minutes.
