City air heavily polluted as PM2.5 almost 3 times nation's limit
IT is highly polluted in Shanghai today, with the density of tiny PM2.5 particles reaching 214 micrograms per cubic meter at 11am, nearly three times the nation's limit, according to Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.
The center has issued a warning to people with respiratory diseases, the elderly, children and people with weak immunity to stay indoors and for all people to reduce time spent outdoors as much as possible.
The density of PM2.5 particles — the main pollutant — began to rise quickly starting at noon yesterday, with the density of 80 micrograms per cubic meter hitting over 200 micrograms per cubic meter by midnight, and remaining above 200 micrograms per cubic meter.
