White tiger attacks zoo workers in Czech Republic

A RARE white tiger named Paris escaped from its enclosure and attacked three employees in a Czech Republic zoo.

Lenka Markovicova, spokeswoman for the rescuers in the northern city of Liberec, says one man was hospitalized last Thursday with head injuries, but his condition is not life-threatening. Two women were treated in hospital for minor injuries and released.

Zoo spokesman Ivan Langr said the tiger was tranquilized and poses no further danger. He said the zoo's employees were shocked and it was not known who was to blame for the escape.

The Liberec Zoo is the only one in the Czech Republic that has white tigers. White tigers are the result of both parents having a recessive gene for white coloration.

They are rare in the wild because they stand out in the jungle, hindering their efforts to catch prey.
