Tencent builds e-commerce center in Guangzhou

Tencent Ecommerce Holding Co, the online shopping unit of China's largest Internet company Tencent, said it started building a billion-yuan (US$161.3 million) e-commerce operation center in the southern city of Guangzhou.

The operation center will be built next year or early 2015 with a 200,000-square-meter logistics center to catch up with business rivals such as Alibaba and 360Buy.

51Buy, another e-commerce unit under Tencent, currently has 16 logistics centers around the country to ensure swift delivery.

The Guangzhou operation center is designed to handle orders worth more than 20 billion yuan and cover all the cities in south China.
