Smart plan for traffic in Jing’an
JING’AN District is building an intelligent transportation system.
The plan, revealed at a big data conference held yesterday, is aimed at resolving traffic issues such as motoring offenses and congestion.
The district has installed smart cameras at 26 road intersections that can automatically recognize common offenses like driving in the wrong direction or parking illegally.
The technology, backed by big data and artificial intelligence, will be applied to 50 intersections by the end of this year, said Li Jian, senior traffic official of the district.
Cang Dingjun, vice traffic squad captain, said officials have built a statistical model and set parameters. Cang said if the cameras detect “abnormal figures,” they will automatically take photos and a 10-second video to record information such as registration plates.
Jing’an officials are also working with the country’s largest map service provider Amap to achieve real-time data analysis in a bid to reduce traffic jams.
